Hennesey may build 1,000hp electric hypercar

Many bin-name supercar makers got into their fastest cars electric motors eg. McLaren with the P1, Porsche with the 918, Ferrari with the LaFerrari, Mercedes with the SLS AMG e-cell and the list goes on for days. The latest entry into this list is going to be Hennessey.

For those of you who know who Hennesey is, skip to second paragraph and for those of you who don't know let me give you a quick history lesson. Hennesey is a "small" company in Texas, founded in 1991, who's job is to modify cars and they are doing a pretty job for the past 14 years. In 2011, Mr. John Hennesey (yes, he is the owner of the company) decided to build his own car and after extensive research and development, testing and brainstorming, they released the Venom GT. This is the fastest accelerating production car from 0-300km/h in just 13.63 seconds breaking the World Guinness record in 2013 and leaving Bugatti in a cloud of smoke. It has a twin turbocharged 7.0 litre V8 GM LS7 engine which puts out a staggering 1,244hp and 1,155lb ft. And this in a car that weighs less than a Mini Cooper at just 1244kg. The result of this high power and low weight method is a top speed of.....447km/h and a 0-60 time of just 2.4 seconds.

A few days ago, Mr. Hennesey admitted that they are thinking of getting into the electric-car game along with the rest of the big names. The difference is that their car will be 100% electric. "Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren have done a great job at proving that hybrid

technology works, but I'm not intterested in hybrids," explained company founder John

Hennessey in an interview with Top Gear. "I'd only do the Venom with an engine or as a

straight electric."

Even though they are still waiting for production approval from the government they are positive that they could release an electric hypercar within the next 2-3 years because they believe that the battery packs that are available at the moment are too heavy and not powerful enough to put out the power they want. If built, the car will have at least(!) 1,000hp and will be just as fast as the record breaking Venom GT. Unfortunately though, they didn't care to comment on how long it will last on a single charge....
