Alfa Romeo Giulia: Better than an M3?!

In the world of petrol heads, the BMW M3 is probably one of the most respected cars out there. It's made from excellent quality materials, it's fast and comfortable but can also be a stiff track day car. At least in my eyes, the M3 is probably in the top 3 best cars in the world. Of course there are many cars you could choose from in the supersaloon category like the Mercedes C63 AMG or the Jaguar XFR, the AUDI RS4 and the list goes on for days. Even though none of them managed to take the M3's place, maybe the new Alfa Romeo will...

The new Alfa Romeo Giulia, has been developed secretly over the last two years, along with seven other models that the Italians plan to release in the market over the next three years. But for some reason I don't think any of them would be as gorgeous and as impressive as this. The Giulia is powered by a Ferrari engine. More specifically a 2.9 litre bi-turbo V6 which produces a whopping 510hp and 600Nm of torque. This results in a 0-60mph time of just 3.8 seconds and a top speed of just under 200mph! That's truly astonishing for a 4 door family saloon. It's been said that this car, even though it's new from the ground up, was based on the 159. I don't think the 159 was ever made for this kind of specs though.

This is the only saloon car ever made to have an active aero front splitter. This adjustable carbon fiber spoiler is integrated into the front lower fascia and is automatically lowered to increase performance and handling at high speeds and generate up to 100kg of downforce at top speed. It's also rear wheel drive so you can have some fun around the corners, but when you are focused on setting lap times, the rear differential separately controls torque delivery to each wheel in all situations to foster rapid response and real-time stability on all surfaces. The power, the 50-50 weight distribution, the engine and the technology make this car good. But what makes it great is the passion, the history and the character of Alfa Romeo. This car was taken out to the Nürburgring and it managed to set a time of 7:39 which makes it the fastest production, 4-door car ever! That's no accident. The Italians know what they are doing.

The price of the Giulia has yet to be announced officially but it is said that the top model will start at around 66,000 pounds which, I believe, is quite reasonable. Even though it's 10,000 pounds more expensive than the M3, it's more powerful and way more beautiful. This is probably one the most beautiful cars in the world. Of course, you don't expect anything less from Alfa Romeo. And as the chairman said in an interview a few days ago: "Our cars are made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. There is no other brand in the world that can provide cars with such history and emotion as we do."
